  why do jws fear getting 'priveleges' revoked?

  from what i understand these privilages aren't much of a privilage!.

  i'd be wearing a fake beard just to get them revoked.

  They fear gettin' their privileges revoked because its akin to losing God's blessing being taken away or your whole sense of being lost. ITS ALL PSYCHOLOGY. Nice way to keep the rank and file in line.

  I Still Don't Get It

  posters on several recent threads have waxed eloquent about reforming, reorganizing, reinventing, mainstreaming jehovah's witnesses.. the comparative efficacy of internal or external pressure has been one of the subthemes.. as a former 50 year "true believer", this seems like such an exercize in futility.

  if this is really an organization sponsored by the god of the universe, why dare steady the ark.

  if not, why bother?.

  whether or not you believe the bible to be true, you must admit that the portrayal of some of its characters are really dumb.

  eve: gets the dunce cap and the invite to stand in the corner everlastingly.

  Eve: Gets the dunce cap and the invite to stand in the corner everlastingly. A perennial pick of many. Eating forbidding fruit, conversing with snakes and etc., the list can go on and on.

  Jehovah (of the Hebrew Scriptures): Creating man. Creating man w/instincts only to set up rules in opposition. Making an issue of universal import come down to the eating of a single piece of fruit. Killing man. Killing man again. The original terminator. His mass killings would make Mr. Schwarznegger blush. And he's not done yet....He'll be back........

  Servant boy at the House of Dagon? (Sampson's Time) - Did it not dawn on this dude that blind Sampson wanted his hands on the pillars to take him and everyone else in the spot out?

  Israelites (Hebrew Scriptures) - Nothing need be said.

  Peter - When I look at the various accounts involving him he forshadowed village idiots who are elders whose BS you'd have to put up with.

  Balaam - C'mon kiss your ASS.

  Life On Other Planets

  the society has taken stabs at it in the past only to double-talk the issue to death and insert their own prograndized spin on it.

  i remember one article encouraged peeps to not look for life on other planets, but instead try to draw close to extra-terrestrials that want to draw close to us (jehovah, jesus, faithful angels) or either imply at the end of one publication that jehovah has a purpose for the universe but that the earth will always be special because this is where his name/right to rule was vindicated.

  What do y'all think? The Society has taken stabs at it in the past only to double-talk the issue to death and insert their own prograndized spin on it. I remember one article encouraged peeps to not look for life on other planets, but instead try to draw close to extra-terrestrials that want to draw close to us (Jehovah, Jesus, Faithful angels) or either imply at the end of one publication that Jehovah has a purpose for the universe but that the earth will always be special because this is where his name/right to rule was vindicated.

  But really are there little spacemen/women out there? BTW, hit up www.space.com. They have some awesome pics of the universe posted up each day..........

  30 and Out?

  30 that seems to put jw's at a cross-roads?

  i've known so many who have decided to abandon ship at either the age of 30 or either after 30 years of being baptized.

  i fall into the former category.

  What is it about the No. 30 that seems to put JW's at a cross-roads? I've known so many who have decided to abandon ship at either the age of 30 or either after 30 years of being baptized. I fall into the former category. You know the routine:
  (1) Raised around the "truth"
  (2) Baptized at a fairly early age
  (3) Pioneered out of high school
  (4) Served time at the 'Big House' (Bethel)
  (5) Used my "gift" of singleness by forsaking dating/marriage relationships for the sake of the kingdom.
  (6) Forsook college for the kingdom.
  (7) Woke up one morning.
  (8) Found that I was 30.
  (9) Realized that being a JW was plain and utter BS.
  (10) Decided I wasn't too old to go to school, and get an education, a life, a meaning and a purpose.

  That's the beauty of it. At least I wasn't too old to come out and "do my thing". I think of so many who have thrown their lives away for the sake of the "kingdom". I like to think that as long as you're alive you have the power to do anything you put your mind to do. But there are so many people who gave their lives to this cult who are now in their latter 50's, 60's, 70's and always wonder what would've-could've-shoud've been with respect to actually having a real life. Lost careers, opportunities, goals, families, lovers.

  I remember at Bethel, many old-timers were there only because they devoted so many years of their lives to "the kingdom", they felt that they couldn't do anything else. They felt that they were too old to go back to school, learn a skill, have a family, have a life. Oddly enough some of the Bethelites who said this had been there for 30 YEARS. So you've got a major demographic of people who are only serving this organization for room and board. Really sad. I'm just glad I woke up and became part of the 30/30 club.........

  the biggest error wt has continued to make for the last 120yrs is they leave a wonderful paper trail behind - where a serious student of study will have no problem following and seeing that so many of their lofty claims simply don't fly .

  case in point - are the elders trained or untrained clergymen as it were?.

  well for those of you who have never served as an elder allow me to share with you what elders are told about their training.

  as soeone raised in the truth my whole life i am struggling with a basic doctrinal issue.

  the issue has to do with universal sovreignty and the ransom sacrifice.
